Expert:

An expert that could be of use to me, is Dr. Glenn Coulthard, who is an assistant professor in First Nations Studies and Political Science at UBC.

  1. More than 25 per cent feels like a lot considering how few First Nation people you see in everyday life, I’d read the rest of the article. Great choice of an expert, he would probably have a lot of insightful things to say.

  3. This looks like a great start to your data story. I think that interviewing Dr. Glenn Coultard is a good way to analyze your results and get possible reasons to this data. Also interviewing someone in the VPD or a judge may be interesting as well and give you a very objective paper

  4. That is an really high number, it would be interesting to include how that relates to the percentage of Canada's population that are of Aboriginal descent. But it definitely raises a flag, there is obviously something wrong here. I can't wait to see what else you find.

  5. I think you have solid data for a compelling piece but over representation of Aboriginals in prison populations is a well documented fact. It might be worth something to find multiple different angles like Katrina said to give your piece an objective view and throw something fresh into the debate. Maybe talk to Downtown Eastside social workers and ask their view as well. Good story.

  6. Hey, I really like your story. Your data is clear and strong. I think your potential interview is good, and it might be beneficial for you to contact someone who know and can explain your numbers.
